September Executive Board Meeting Recap

On September 8th, 2022, the newly appointed MCR Executive Board met at the Carver Educational Center to kickstart the beginning of a brand new school year. The first MCR Executive Board meeting of the 2022-2023 school year began at around 6:05 PM.

The first item on the agenda was the first SMOB report of the year, delivered by Arvin Kim. Arvin shared about the opening of the new Harriet Tubman Elementary School, the assignment of social workers at all 25 high schools, and the mitigation of COVID-19 through face coverings, screenings, and virtual learning as necessary. Arvin also hosted his first SMOB Cabinet meeting on September 21st at Carver Education Services Center.

Shortly after the SMOB Arvin Kim concluded his statement, MCJC’s Vice President Reemey Ghermay began her report. She shared that MCJC had finished the setup of their Executive Board and had designed and shipped out their merchandise. Furthermore, Ghermay informed MCR members about some important MCJC dates including their first general Assembly on October 19, 2022 and their first Executive Board meeting on October 11, 2022.

Following the officers sharing what they had been up to the past month, the MCR Board began writing letters to the Children’s National Hospital in D.C. The board hoped that their letters would prioritize love and care to the patients.

Department breakouts were next, and after some productive idea exchanging, a department competition was introduced. The task at hand was to create a promotional Tik Tok in under twenty minutes, the prize being the Tik Tok posted and bragging rights. Check out all the department Tik Toks on the MCR-SGA Tik Tok and Instagram account: @mcrsga

After the Tik Tok competition, upcoming events were announced. The next MCR-SGA executive board meeting will be on October 6th at Carver, the MCPS Mental Health Fair will take place on October 15th, and MoCo Youth Town Hall will be on October 26th.

Some important reminders for Executive Board members include that Executive Board meetings are mandatory for all members, emails should be frequently checked, absences should be emailed to your Director and Chief of Staff, and you should reach out to Michelle if you are not yet on the Remind and Slack.

Reaching towards the end of a very successful first meeting, MCR Advisor Mrs. Cherry went over some of her comments and reports. After congratulating the newly chosen board members, Mrs. Cherry spoke about the monthly student posted newsletters and where to locate them.

With that, the first MCR Executive Board meeting of the year was adjourned at around 8:00pm with MCR-SGA Executive Board members awaiting some of the MCJC events as well as the next meeting on October 6th.
